There's no point launching the Wii gun peripheral if there's no software to support it, says Nintendo.
At E3 last year, Nintendo's Wii "Zapper Style" controller shell was showcased to an overly enthusiastic reception, yet almost a year on, there's been no indication of the gun peripheral hitting store shelves.
That hasn't stopped third parties catching onto the idea though, with a couple launching similar products. However, according to Nintendo, who spoke recently with CVG, "A peripheral is only as useful as the software it's supporting."
Nintendo's only first-party title that would make any use of the device is the shooting game within Wii Play, and Nintendo continued, "What was showed was a prototype. We're not announcing any further details at this time."
